Craft activities are a lovely way to spend time together as a family and making your own decorations will get the kids really excited for Christmas. Personalised decorations are much more meaningful than anything shop bought and this is a great way to save money.
A Citrus Garland is a zero-waste Christmas decoration that will make your house smell amazing. A garland can take pride of place on your tree, or you can hang it around your home.
What you’ll need:
Cut the orange into slices that are about half a centimetre thick. Try and get them as equal as possible.
After slicing the orange, make a hole in the top of each slice using your skewer. Make sure you wiggle the skewer around a bit so that the hole is big enough to make it easy to thread your garland.
Spread your orange slices on a lined baking tray. Pop them into the oven at 65 degrees centigrade and leave for 4 hours.
Once the orange slices are dry, remove them from the oven and leave to cool. They may still feel a bit sticky, but leave them overnight on a wire rack and they will dry out completely.
To make your garland, feed your string, twine or ribbon through the holes of your orange slices. Tie a knot on either side of the slice to hold them in places. Now you have an amazing smelling decoration that will last you years!
